About Silver Labs...
The silver lab in a relative short time has created quite the stir in lab
breeding circles. The rumors of silver lab breeders cross breeding with
Weimaraners are not factual. Many silver lab breeders, including our kennel,
have they dogs’ dna profile on record with AKC – which ensures that they are
Labradors – and only Labradors.
The very way that you breed for silvers disproves the Weim theory. The silver
color comes from a dilution gene – both parents must carry the gene to
produce a dilute (either silver or charcoal). For example, if you breed a silver
to a chocolate (which we have done before) you will get ALL chocolates. This
wouldn’t happen if some how there was Weim blood in there; the silver color
is simply from the expression of the diluted gene.
Crosses and results:
Silver to Silver – All silver pups only
Silver to Charcoal – Mix of silver and charcoal pups only
Charcoal to Charcoal – All charcoal pups only
Silver to Chocolate with dilution gene – mix of silver and chocolate pups only
Silver to Chocolate without gene – All chocolate pups only
Our silvers are fully AKC registered, as chocolates, as the color is a dilution
of the chocolate gene. They are able to show in any AKC competition. They
may get marked down in a confirmation class as the color is still considered a
fault.
We first and foremost breed for quality dogs. All our dogs are OFA’d and their
eyes are CERF certified. We want to produce beautiful, healthy, quality family
dogs – their unique color comes as a bonus!
